Description
Built in 1913 for the Louisville and Nashville originally a regular combination car (half baggage/half passenger). Was later modified for compliance with what were known as "Jim Crow" laws which required the separation of white and black passengers. This lead to the car being modified with a front "black" section and a rear "whites" section with a baggage compartment inbetween.
In 1956 the car was used in the filming of "Raintree County" a civil war epic filmed in nearby Danville, Kentucky along with 4-4-0 locomotive "William Mason" now at the Baltimore Railroad Museum.
In 1962 the L&N restored the 4-4-0 locomotive "General" as part of the countries civil war centennial celebration. This coach toured the L&N system behind the "General" and housed a small museum dedicated to the Great Locomotive Chase of civil war fame.
Car was then donated to the Kentucky Railway Museum who like with almost everything else they own has the let the car fall into the miserable state you see here. Car is currently "stored" at KRM in New Haven, KY.
